Privacy Policy
Effective date: 12 March 2026 · Last updated: 12 March 2026
Petrol Price Pro ("the App") is operated by Solstice Software Ltd ("we", "us", "our"), a company registered in England and Wales (Company No. 17030027). We are the data controller for the purposes of UK data protection law. This policy applies to Petrol Price Pro on all platforms, including Android (Google Play) and iOS (Apple App Store). It explains what data the App collects, why we collect it, and your rights.
1. Data we collect and why
Location data
We request your device's approximate location (foreground only, with your permission) to find nearby petrol stations and display them on a map. Your location is sent to our database server to query for nearby fuel prices. We do not store your location history on our servers.
Lawful basis: Legitimate interest (core app functionality — finding nearby fuel stations).
Vehicle information
If you use the "Worth the detour?" feature, you may enter your vehicle registration number or vehicle details (make, model, year, fuel type). Registration numbers are sent to the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service to retrieve publicly available vehicle information (make, model, fuel type, CO2 emissions). Vehicle data is stored locally on your device to avoid repeated lookups. We do not store your registration number on our servers.
Lawful basis: Legitimate interest (providing fuel economy calculations).
Purchase information
If you purchase the premium upgrade, the transaction is processed by your device's app store (Google Play or Apple App Store). We use RevenueCat to verify your purchase and manage your entitlements. RevenueCat receives an anonymous identifier to track your purchase status. We do not have access to your payment details (card number, billing address, etc.).
Lawful basis: Contract performance (delivering the premium features you purchased).
Crash reports and diagnostics
We use Sentry to collect crash reports and performance data. This includes device type, operating system version, app version, and technical details about errors. Sentry uses a randomly generated installation ID (not your device's advertising ID). This data is used solely to fix bugs and improve app stability.
Lawful basis: Legitimate interest (maintaining app stability and fixing bugs).
Advertising
The free version of the App displays banner advertisements served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect your device's advertising identifier, IP address, app interaction data, and diagnostic information to serve relevant ads and prevent fraud. You can opt out of personalised advertising in your device settings (Android: Settings → Google → Ads; iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking). On iOS, we will ask for your consent before tracking via the App Tracking Transparency prompt. Premium users do not see any advertisements and no advertising data is collected.
Lawful basis: Consent (for personalised ads) / Legitimate interest (for non-personalised ads and fraud prevention). You can withdraw consent for personalised ads at any time via your device settings.
2. Third-party services
The App uses the following third-party services. Each operates under their own privacy policy:
| Service | Purpose | Data shared |
|---|---|---|
| Google Maps | Map display and driving distance calculations | Location coordinates |
| Google AdMob | Banner advertisements (free version only) | Device ID, IP address, app interactions |
| Supabase | Database hosting (fuel prices, station data) | Location coordinates (for nearby query) |
| RevenueCat | In-app purchase management | Anonymous user ID, purchase status |
| Sentry | Crash reporting and performance monitoring | Device info, OS version, crash data |
| DVLA | Vehicle registration lookup | Registration number (entered by user) |
| OpenStreetMap | Place search and geocoding | Search queries |
3. Data stored on your device
The following data is stored locally on your device only and is not transmitted to our servers:
- Your preferred fuel type
- Vehicle information (make, model, year, fuel type, MPG)
- Your vehicle registration number (if entered)
- Tank size setting
- Premium purchase status
- Cached fuel price data (for faster loading)
You can clear this data at any time by clearing the App's storage in your device settings or by uninstalling the App.
4. International data transfers
Some of the third-party services we use may process data outside the UK. Where this happens, appropriate safeguards are in place:
- Supabase — our database is hosted in the EU (covered by UK adequacy regulations).
- Google — operates under Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
- Sentry — our data is stored in the EU (Frankfurt, Germany).
- RevenueCat — operates under Standard Contractual Clauses for any data processed outside the UK.
5. Data retention
- Location data — not stored on our servers; used only for the duration of each nearby station query.
- Vehicle registration numbers — not stored on our servers; stored locally on your device until you clear it.
- Crash reports — retained by Sentry for 90 days.
- Purchase records — retained by RevenueCat for the lifetime of your purchase (to verify your entitlement).
- Advertising data — retained by Google in accordance with their data retention policy.
- Local device data — retained until you clear the App's storage or uninstall.
6. Data security
All data transmitted between the App and our servers is encrypted in transit using TLS (HTTPS). The App does not require user accounts or passwords. Data stored locally on your device is protected by your device's own security measures (screen lock, encryption).
7. Fuel price data
Fuel prices displayed in the App come from the UK Government's Fuel Finder service. This is publicly available data provided under the Open Government Licence v3.0. We update this data approximately every 15 minutes.
8. Children's privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
9. Your rights
Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR), you have the following rights:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — request correction of inaccurate data.
- Erasure — request deletion of your data.
- Restriction — request that we limit how we use your data.
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Data portability — request your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent — where we process data based on consent (e.g. personalised ads), you can withdraw consent at any time via your device settings.
Since we do not store personal data on our servers (vehicle and preference data is stored only on your device), there is generally nothing to access or delete server-side. You can clear all local data by clearing the App's storage or uninstalling.
If you are not satisfied with how we handle your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
